Sabina’s Sisters

Very excited to share this unbelievably fun retro- inspired photo shoot titled Sabina’s Sisters with all my fellow Vintage connoisseurs!

Originally intended for the Flux magazine, this shoot was photographed by Jon Bergman and styled by Linda Portman.

I love so many things about this shoot that I couldn’t resist asking Linda some questions about Sabina’s Sisters and her work as a stylist. Read on…

1. Hi Linda. Can you tell the readers a bit about yourself and your work?

I am a Swedish girl who works as a fashion stylist and who currently lives in London.

2 You’re such a talented lady. Does styling come naturally to you or have you studied it formally?

Thanks dear! I love to create images that are more fantasy than reality, the world can be quite dark and we need to see more of beauty. I did study Fashion Marketing Merchandising in New York and then worked 6 years at The New York Times Magazine's Style dept. I learned my craft mostly from my former supervisors David Farber and Mimi Lombardo. I too devoured every single fashion magazine I could get my hands on to study the fashion stories. Styling does come naturally to me but I am still Very Stressed before a shoot since I do want to be my Utmost best at all times.

3. Can you give us a little background and inside scoop on your shoot, Sabina’s Sisters?

I found this picture of my best friend's mother and her sisters. It was taken in the 70's and the 3 girls wore all these wonderfully crazed prints with huge glasses. I fell in love with this image. I started to plan.... to borrow all these crazy printed samples.....mix and match it all and to style it with the Wonders of Natacha Marro (shoe designer). I then presented the idea to photographer Jon Bergman. My friend's name is Sabina so thereby the name Sabina's Sisters. The main memory of this shoot is of the wonderful locations that Jon had scouted for this story and the wonders of his girlfriend, Phoebe, who acted as a set stylist at this shoot. It was to be for Flux magazine but ended up being an outtake.

4. Which photo shoot have you enjoyed styling for the most till date?

There have been so many....but one story that I love is with Martina Olsson! We shot a little girl called Nova in Stockholm's wonderful Djurgarden.... at all these amazing places. All clothes are vintage. We call the story The Little Sister of Alice in Wonderland.

5. What motivates you? Do you have any online sources of inspiration that you frequent often?

Art, wonderful clothes and photography motivate me. I do have some places I to check often like: The Fashion Spot, Rodeo, Style by Kling, T Magazine Blog, Liebemarlene Vintage and my own blog Alice In Wonderland.

6. Do you have any guilty pleasures / indulgences ?

Gossip Magazines! They are my true guilty pleasures. Just to flick through....To not think and see what the celebrities are wearing.  :)

Thank you Linda. To see more of Linda’s work click here and here.

What a wonderful and inspiring post. I love looking back at retro pictures of my family. The jeans and t-shirt culture we are living in really does not keep up with the wonderful norm of like the 70´s.... More thank you:)

Girl, you've got to learn that crochet! It can get frustrating at the beginning but once you realize that crocheting is basically sticking the hook into a loop yarning over and making more loops you'll be fine and making great accessories! XOXO
